Pattern is the second Theatre of Youth production created as part of the Blind Date programme, which seeks to foreground the director–actor relationship and to facilitate the meeting of artists who have not previously worked together.
For a month and a half, the director and playwright Daniel Chirilă and the actor Daniel Beșleagă have explored together an unknown territory, putting on the map common subjects, personal or borrowed experiences. They have discovered together a story and a character in which we find, all of us, something of our families’ life.
Pattern is, in fact, paternal: the story of a grown-up son confronted with the reappearance of his absent father. A son who all his life has imagined for himself the paternal figure from stories and the experiences of others. A jigsaw puzzle of a father, a dominant figure even in his absence. Pattern is the tale of a father–son or son–father transition, one of parallel realities and patterns that repeat from generation to generation.
