MATCA is a cultural project launched under the aegis of Curtea Veche Publishing, with Cărturești, Art, and Nemira as co-founders. Matca literară articles appear online daily, while the journal in printed format is scheduled to appear at three-monthly intervals.

The first issue of MATCA in print was launched in May 2023, and the second will appear in September. The first two issues feature names with resonance in the Romanian cultural space, including Ruxandra Cesereanu, Gianina Cărbunariu, Alina Purcaru, Marius Chivu, Radu Aldulescu, Robert Șerban, Bogdan Ghiu, Claudiu Komartin, and T. O. Bobe.

The magazine aims to promote both already well-known writers and artists and those who have only recently made their debut in the Romanian cultural world. Although the literary landscape of Romania already includes important periodicals that draw attention to new tendencies and ideas, Matca literară comes with a blast of fresh energy as it attempts to create a balance between text and image, form and content.

Art, Culture, Literature, Ideas – these are the coordinates that bring together the texts and images in MATCA’s portfolio, the work of prose writers, poets, critics, painters, photographers, and others. Among the sections most appreciated by readers are Memorii în flagrant [memories caught in the act], Conturul flexibil [the flexible outline], Got You, În păpușoi [in the maize], and First Touch. Meanwhile, Matca interviews offer a fresh perspective, calling both on the ingenuity of the interviewer and interviewees and on the ludic dimension of the whole.

The event provides the setting for a discussion about the literary and theatrical space, with the launch of the first two print issues of the magazine Matca Literară and the presentation of the books Trei săptămâni în Atlas (Three weeks in the Atlas) by Marius Chivu and Bilete de sinucigaș (Suicide notes) by T.O. Bobe, both published by Humanitas.
