In the period 9–11 September 2023, at the Theatre of Youth, the theatre critic Mihai Brezeanu will hold the seventh edition of Spectator as a critic Workshop, aimed at young people aged 14–18.

Mihai Brezeanu:

The young spectator’s questions

Do we go to the theatre to judge the play or to find out something about the world? When we talk about the theatre, do we report what we saw on stage or confess how much of us was on the stage?

Open to high-school pupils from Neamț county, the ‘Critical Spectator’ workshop aims to ask questions, to provoke discussion, to seek answers, to give rise to further questions. What attracts us to the nice building in the town centre? Is it obligatory / cool to go to the theatre? What will our family and friends say if we make a habit of it? Does it matter what they say?

How do we talk about the theatre? Does it call for big words, carefully chosen? Are confessions allowed? Interjections and emoticons? Where do we talk about the theatre? Do vloggers go to the Theatre of Youth? Can the spectator who writes / films (themselves) / tells be an influencer? Does all this matter?

With studies in the field of electronic engineering and currently working in consultancy, Mihai Brezeanu is a teaching associate at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and has been writing regularly with passion about theatre and cinema since 2011.
