A delicious example of rough theatre, this comedy takes place at the reception desk of a Timișoara hotel during the city’s year as European cultural capital. A variety of tourists engage in conversation with the receptionist, who is eager to accommodate them and has to explain to them, in an approximation of foreign languages, how they can spend their holiday in the city on the River Bega. However, as each visitor is seeking something different and the receptionist does not truly master any of their languages, her explanations wander playfully and give rise to situations of dialogue or action so hilarious that the audience’s laughter may be considered a character in its own right. Delicious in the freedom of improvisation that it allows the actors, the play, in its subtext, presents a panorama of the Europeanness of a city like Timișoara and the tonic cosmopolitanism of the global village in which we live.
A performance in Romanian, German, English, Italian, French, Dutch, Serbian and, to a lesser extentent, in Turkish, Greek, Chinese, Romanes and Sign Language.
