This production recomposes the baroque novel-like life of a little-known figure: the erudite Nopcsa Ferenc, Hungarian baron born at Deva in Transylvania, adventurer in Europe, discoverer of the Hațeg dinosaur fossils, ethnologist in the Balkans, star of high-society and academic circles, lover of his servant, shepherd and spy, rich and poor—and much else, equally contradictory. His almost unbelievably kaleidoscopic existence is seen against the backdrop of the schemings and contrasts, the progresses and chauvinisms that characterized the mosaic of the world of the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, when everything seemed to be happening at once, ending or beginning. What could be more appropriate, then, than that all the actors should play facets of the same Nopcsa, understood here as the product [JCB1] of unrepeatable atrocities and of an open mind ahead of its time.

A performance in Hungarian, with subtitles in Romanian and English.
