This play is a documented fiction about the connection between trauma and its exhibition through creation. The production imagines the meeting of an ensemble of actors led by the director Mansdorf, the leader of the first post-war Yiddish-language theatre. Gathered on the stage of the Barașeum Theatre in Bucharest in 1945, the Jewish actors wonder how the theatre of a community that has experienced systematic decimation can look, both from an affective and a pragmatic point of view. In their attempt to find the perfect production—in fact, the direction of a new beginning—the characters remake scenes from the season of the time and struggle with tragedies whose traumas cannot be represented. The real and the imaginary—the atrocities of History and the stage as a place where Play takes shape—are two contrasting pulsations of the production.
