“Born between 1972 and 1989, the young authors are exponents of the Polish dramaturgy of today, intensely performed in theatres, a good many of them holders of awards from national playwriting competitions or of the prestigious Polish cultural prize Paszport Polityki, awarded by the weekly news magazine Polityka for the social and cultural relevance of their work. All the texts in the volume have been written in the last decade and are relevant for the way in which they explore the traumas and inconvenient aspects of today’s Polish society, debating these by means of various performative forms. “Predominant are the monologue, the public speech, the epic poem, and the impersonal relation in non-linear dramatic formulae, which refuse lyricism in favour of raw and often blatantly licentious language that nevertheless stimulates the audience’s conscientization and empathy. (…) Political, socially engaged, feminist, non-normative, these texts continue the tradition of Polish theatre that is political, engaged, auto-reflexive, and attentive to the crisis points in society.” (Oana Cristea Grigorescu)
