This production sets out of examine a not-so-well-known episode in our recent history. The communist regime imposed financial conditions on the departure from Romania of its citizens of German ethnicity—both through negotiations with the Federal Republic of Germany, which paid a price for each individual repatriated, and through extortion from those who wished to emigrate. We learn the story of a Saxon family from Romania, with members belonging to three generations, trying to understand what happened to them from 1944 to the ’80s of Romanian communism. The dramatic events through which they pass are treated more often than not with humour and irony, as a way of finding the inner resources to get over the tragedy of history.
