Theatre of Youth

Between 3 and 7 September, Dan Perjovschi will carry out the site-specific project ” Entrance drawing”.

The main side of the Theatre of Youth will be transformed into a permanent exhibition, in which the glass sections become the support for this visual artist’s work.

Dan Perjovschi draws critically, with humour, directly onto the wall of art institutions all over the world, offering a political, social, and cultural commentary on the issues of the day in global society. His black and white drawings are in fact visual editorials.

He has had one-person exhibitions at the Tate Modern in London, MoMA New York, MACRO in Rome, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Reykjavik Art Museum, Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, Museum Ludwig in Cologne, the Nasher Museum at Duke University, and Kiasma in Helsinki, and has taken part in group exhibitions at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, Tate Liverpool, Castello de Rivoli in Turin, MoMA San Francisco, MUAC in Mexico City, MAM in Warsaw [JCB1] , MCBA in Lausanne, and MOT in Tokyo. His work has appeared in art biennials in Istanbul, Venice, Sao Paolo, Moscow, Sydney, Lyon, Dublin, Iași, Timișoara, and Jakarta.

He has been awarded the George Maciunas Prize (2004), the Princess Margriet ECF Prize (Amsterdam, 2012, with Lia Perjovschi), and the Rosa Schapire Kunsthalle Prize (Hamburg, 2016). He is a laureate of the Gheorghe Ursu Foundation for human rights (1999) and the CERE Participare civil society gala (2016).

Since 1991, Dan Perjovschi’s work has appeared regularly in the Bucharest weekly Revista 22, and since 2010, he has run the “Horizontal Newspaper” in Sibiu, an art project in the public space.
